Nokia FY mobile phone sales 128 mln units, up 64 pct; below forecasts -UPDATE

HELSINKI (AFX) - Nokia Corp said its mobile phone sales rose 64 pct to 128
mln units last year compared with 78.5 mln in 1999. Nokia exceeded market growth
in 2000 as a whole and in the fourth quarter, it said.
Lehman Brothers` estimate was that Nokia would report unit sales of 135 mln
for 2000.
Global mobile phone market volume in 2000 was approximately 405 mln units,
up 45 pct from 1999, Nokia said.
Lehman Brothers was predicing global market volume of 420 mln.
Nokia also said its preliminary market estimates indicate that the global
mobile phone subscriber base had climbed above 700 mln users by the end of the
year 2000, representing global penetration of approximately 12 pct.
Nokia will release its fourth quarter and full-year results on Jan 30, it
said.
