Michael

Servus zusammen,

REMEMBER!!WHY THIS STOCK!$142

IT'S PURE GENE LOGIC
By Dr. Cynthia Miller, MD, Ph.D.

We are living in an exciting era. Never before has there been such great
anticipation on how greatly technological advancements will improve our
lives. And as the recent months indicate, this will be no different in
biotechnology. Many biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies have
embarked on quests to conquer diseases that many scientists and physicians
only dreamed of undertaking as recently as a couple of years ago.

One such company that perfectly represents this excitement in
biotechnology is Gene Logic (GLGC, $142). Gene Logic lies at the
epicenter of the growing biotechnology boom. Indeed, much of the hoopla
generated thus far in the popular press has focused on the near-completion
of our human genome sequence, but the big question is what will we do with
all this information? We must make sense of it. Gene Logic will provide
that bridge between human sequence and the drugs of tomorrow.

As the sequencing of the human genome nears completion, the products Gene
Logic has to offer will become that more powerful. And what exactly are
these tools? They are invaluable mega-databases that contain, among other
things, data on gene expression, protein structure, and information about
subtle characteristic differences between you and me in our DNA that may
be important for making tailor-made drugs some day. Pharmaceutical
companies will need the tools and services that GLGC has to offer so they
can determine -- with a quicker turn-around time -- if the drugs in
development are going after the right targets. One can already imagine
how important their products will become for the smaller pharmaceuticals
with more limited resources, since many of these companies can ill-afford
to design drugs that fail.

For example, let's say Pfizer is interested in developing a Drug X to
fight colon cancer. They want Drug X to block a particular pathway
component (e.g. an enzyme or other protein) believed to cause colon
cancer. Pfizer designs and synthesizes their candidate drug and tests it.
By using Gene Logic's GeneExpress databases, the R&D team at Pfizer knows
which set of genes are hyperactive in colon cancer. However, although
Drug X succeeds in blocking their target protein of interest, they realize
that the same subset of genes believed to be responsible for colon cancer
are STILL hyperactive. That is, Drug X has failed to induce a more global
anti-cancer effect. (Fact: a number of genes -- some known, some unknown
-- often go haywire before one develops cancer. Gene Logic's product can
help determine what those genes are). Therefore, Drug X fails. Pfizer
quickly goes on to candidate Y for testing. Time saved = money well not
spent. Cost efficiency helps increase profit margins.

Gene Logic is investing in a science that is known to work. The firm is
already producing proprietary products that are being used by major drug
companies and research institutions today. Analysts have projected the
company to become profitable by 2001. The company has also firmly
established itself as the industry leader. All one has to do is refer to
its client list, which includes Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, Schering-Plough,
SmithKline Beecham, Merck & Co. and PE Biosystems -- in short, a growing
list of the Who's-Who in pharmaceuticals. By also working closely with
Affymetrix (AFFX), the makers of the high-powered DNA array chips that
they use, Gene Logic will remain the dominant player for many years to
come.

Gene Logic Signs UCB Pharma to GeneExpress(TM) Subscription And Announces Expansion of
Custom Discovery Partnership

MONDAY, OCTOBER 02, 2000 6:01 AM
- PRNewswire

GAITHERSBURG, Md. and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct 2, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Gene Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:GLGC), a leading
provider of genomic information, and UCB Research, a division of UCB Pharma, a global pharmaceutical company with headquarters in
Brussels, Belgium, announced today that UCB has subscribed to a segment of Gene Logic's GeneExpress(TM) Suite of databases for use
in UCB's drug discovery and development programs and they have expanded their current custom discovery partnership regarding
development of a custom gene expression database for new drug discovery focused on allergy. Financial terms of the multi-year
subscription and the expanded custom partnership were not disclosed.

Under the terms of the GeneExpress subscription, UCB will gain access to a subset of the GeneExpress Suite, specifically the Atlas
DataSuite. The GeneExpress Atlas DataSuite is an interactive information suite containing gene expression profiles of a broad survey of
normal human tissue, enabling researchers to quickly access normal gene expression levels across a broad selection of relevant human
organs and tissues. UCB Pharma becomes the first major pharmaceutical company to subscribe to the Atlas DataSuite, which Gene Logic
launched in August 2000. The agreement provides for broad deployment of the Atlas DataSuite and its related software tools across UCB
Pharma's global pharmaceutical research and development infrastructure.

Also under terms of the agreement, Gene Logic will construct a separate, custom database incorporating UCB's proprietary genomic data
which will allow UCB researchers to readily cross-reference this proprietary data with the nonproprietary data available in the GeneExpress
Atlas DataSuite.

Under the expanded custom partnership regarding allergic disease gene discovery, Gene Logic will use its patented READS(TM)
technology and Affymetrix Inc.'s (Nasdaq:AFFX) GeneChip(R) technology to identify genes that are differentially regulated in mast cells and
other cells central to allergic disease. Gene Logic will continue to apply this multiple platform approach for purposes of providing UCB novel
drug targets. In addition, the partnership affords Gene Logic the opportunity to gain rights to certain data generated from these studies for
eventual inclusion into the GeneExpress Suite.

"We look forward to another productive year of target discovery research with our collaborators at Gene Logic," said Dr. Tom Beck, UCB
Global Director of R&D. "The tools offered by Gene Logic together with our proprietary mast cell technology, have permitted a significant
leap in our understanding of this key allergic cell. The next stage of this research promises to take us to a higher level of defining disease
mechanisms in asthma and other allergic disorders in which the mast cell plays a central pathological role."

"We are thrilled that UCB Pharma, a current custom partner of ours, has not only expanded its existing agreement, but, more importantly,
has chosen to subscribe to one of our GeneExpress DataSuites," said David S. Murray, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales of
Gene Logic. "This multifaceted agreement incorporating both a partnership and subscription component is one of the cornerstones of our
vision of Gene Logic's business model going forward. Clearly, we have established ourselves as an invaluable resource for the entire
research group at UCB."

Dollar.
